Wheeling updates trustees on Cameo Terrace outage; village obtained court order to compel HOA repairs

Trustees received an update July 20 on a prolonged electrical problem affecting 16 units at Cameo Terrace (Deborah Lane/1st Street area). Village staff told the board the homeowners association has hired an electrician, obtained required permits and is working on mechanical repairs under the village's inspection process.
"Yes, they have their permit. Yes, they've paid all necessary fees," Director Clicker said, and he estimated the repair work to be about "70 to 75% completed." Staff said inspectors and the village's contracted technical services are ready to perform follow-up inspections, and the village has coordinated with ComEd to re-energize units once the work passes inspection.
Village staff also told trustees the village pursued and secured a temporary restraining order in Rolling Meadows to compel the HOA to complete the work more quickly. Managers said about 14 of the 16 displaced residents had arranged alternative accommodations with family or friends; two units were not contactable or reported as not requesting services.
Multiple departments, including fire, police and social services, have assisted residents during the outage, staff said. Officials described the situation as improving but emphasized that re-energization is conditional on completed repairs and successful inspections before ComEd can restore power.
