Gilroy Unified board approves tentative teachers’ agreement with 3% one-time pay boost

A presenter summarized the agreement for the board and community, saying, “The parties reached a 3% off the salary schedule onetime payment and also are picking up the increase to the health and welfare benefits beginning, in January.” The presenter stated the total cost for the 2025–26 fiscal year is “a little over 2,400,000.” The presentation also said the class‑size memorandum of understanding for grades 1 through 3 has been extended through the 2027–28 fiscal year using one‑time Learning Recovery Emergency Block Grant funds.
Staff asked the board to approve the item as presented. “We’re requesting that the board take action to approve this item,” a staff member said before a board member moved approval and the presiding officer seconded the motion.
A roll call vote recorded five members voting yes; two trustees were recorded absent. The clerk recorded that Twin Fayak, Gabriela Kim, Kenny Moreno, Michelle Nelson and Linda Paceno voted yes; Jennifer Delbono and Anju/Anshu Yee Baker were recorded absent. The motion carried and the tentative agreement was approved.
The hearing and approval were conducted under the agenda item announced as a public disclosure for AB 1200. The district made the tentative agreement available to the board and public before the vote. The board took no further substantive public comment on the agreement during the record.
Next steps are administrative: the tentative agreement will proceed through any remaining ratification or implementation steps specified by the parties; the meeting adjourned after the vote.
