Kendra elected planning commission chair as commissioners restart comp-plan work and code review

The Spring Hill Planning Commission on March 5 elected Kendra to serve as chair and approved a vice chair by unanimous voice vote. Commissioners opened nominations, Kendra accepted the chair nomination and commissioners recorded unanimous support.
Following the organizational votes, commissioners and staff turned to the comprehensive plan and zoning-code work. Staff said they are reviewing the Unified Zoning Ordinance and plan to propose an additional industrial-zoning distinction within 4 to 6 weeks to separate heavy industrial, general industrial and lighter industrial park uses. "We are working on developing some, looking at our existing zoning designations ... and potentially adding at least one more industrial zoning," a staff member said, estimating a draft would be available in the near future.
Staff also said a joint Planning Commission/City Council work session is scheduled for April 2 to gather feedback before a planning-commission work session and broader public engagement. Commissioners discussed the need for public outreach and for packaging code amendments to follow the comprehensive-plan update rather than introducing piecemeal changes.
Commissioners asked that staff consider annual reviews for conditional-use permits and better communication to the commission when reviews occur; staff described current annual inspection procedures and said they will consider sharing more information as part of the yearly review process.
The meeting ended after brief announcements about recent City Council approvals of plats and conditional-use permits.
