Bigfork board approves $132,000 elementary maintenance plan, signs off on personnel hires

The Board of Trustees of Bigfork Elementary School and Bigfork High School, District No. 38, met April 24 in the district office and approved recommended facility maintenance projects and a consent agenda that included personnel hires.
Superintendent Tom Stack presented maintenance lists for both buildings and said the elementary list totaled $132,000, covering sewer-line work, painting, bathroom repairs and parking-lot resealing. He said the high school list totaled $133,000 and included similar items plus refinishing of concrete flooring. Stack noted potential funding opportunities, including a Flathead Electric Roundup for Safety crosswalk grant and several transportation projects, and recommended transferring available funds from the high school general fund to the Interlocal Agreement Fund to pay for additional elementary work. Board members discussed starting the planning process earlier in future years and reviewing historical maintenance practice. Trustee Julie Kreiman moved to approve the facility maintenance projects as recommended; Trustee Mac Kirk seconded and the motion passed by unanimous vote.
The consent agenda, approved earlier in the meeting, included personnel recommendations contingent on satisfactory criminal-history background checks and any required pre-employment screening. The slate listed Anders Epperly, Earl Bach and Whitney Lockman for elementary teaching positions, and Isaac Martel as high school head girls basketball coach and Marissa Meyer as science fair advisor. Trustee Ben Woods joined the meeting at 2:03 p.m.; the board unanimously approved the consent agenda.
Chairperson Paul Sandry raised a separate payroll tax issue that resulted from a district error and affects eight employees. Sandry recommended the district pay the cost of filing amended tax returns and any related penalties and interest; trustees discussed the matter and agreed it did not require a separate agenda item at this time.
Sandry also acknowledged that the April 24 meeting could be his and Trustee Julie Kreiman’s last meeting and thanked Kreiman for her service to the district. The board confirmed its regular meeting schedule (Wednesdays at 5 p.m. in the high school library) with dates through December 2026, and Kreiman moved to adjourn. Trustee Ben Woods seconded; the meeting adjourned at 2:20 p.m.
