The owner said the barn likely dates to the early 20th century and that a large rolling garage door and corrugated metal roof are later additions.
To make the barn usable, the owner proposed adding two dormers and reusing interior wood for furniture and finishes. He also said he plans to retain the hayloft doors and the hoist system where feasible and to match the main house’s white clapboard and black roof.
"I'm planning on retaining as many elements from inside it that I can," the owner said, adding that he will keep the stables in place for historic authenticity where possible. Board members pressed on code compliance for stairs, landings and accessibility and urged that any external appearance alterations keep the barn’s character; staff noted that some code upgrades will be required to meet current standards.
