Mendham Board of Health reviews April report; staff outline FIFA planning, fee comparison and public-education events

The Mendham Township Board of Health on May 27 reviewed the Health Officer's April 2026 reports and accepted them by unanimous roll-call vote.
Ms. Freer introduced the written reports and summarized key items from Health Officer Carlos Perez. Perez performed administrative, supervisory and regulatory duties and reviewed communicable-disease reports provided by the county epidemiologist. He and Ms. Gorman met with county and state partners, including the County Hazardous Materials Response Team, to coordinate mutual-aid and public-safety planning for FIFA events scheduled June 13—July 18, 2026.
Ms. Freer said assistant health officers met with Perez on grants and communicable-disease activities, and she listed recent trainings she attended, including the Health Officers Retreat in New Brunswick and NJDOH/NJ FDA temporary food-establishment training. On fees, Mr. Monaghan reported that the Township Committee recommended the Board's fee schedule aligns with nearby towns; the board discussed reasonable fees and asked Ms. Freer to produce a fee-comparison chart for Mendham Township and surrounding municipalities.
Ms. Freer reported "No animal exposures/contact reported for the month of April." She also said there were no new lead cases in April and three previously opened lead cases remain under follow-up. She noted that the Morris County Mosquito Commission has distributed information about 2026 Mosquito and Tick traveling displays and that Mendham Township will host a traveling display at the end of July 2026.
Responding to continued resident complaints about odors from a neighboring property's manure pile, Ms. Freer and Solid Waste Investigator Joseph Schmidt met on site with a New Jersey Department of Agriculture representative. Ms. Freer said she "observed a contained pile of manure with no emanating odor or vermin" and that no violations were issued at that time.
Kenneth West moved to accept the Health Officer's Report for April as presented; Benjamin Weber seconded. Roll call recorded votes in favor by Tolley, Weber and West. The meeting then adjourned at 8:32 p.m.
