Mendham Board of Health approves septic expansion for 168 Mendham Road East

The Mendham Township Board of Health on May 27 unanimously approved a septic-system expansion for the property at 168 Mendham Road East (Block 139 Lot 82), changing the design from a three-bedroom to a four-bedroom dwelling.
Robin Selitto of Careaga Engineering, representing the applicant, described the plan and said the expansion is being proposed "for potential resale value." Selitto told the board the existing 1,000-gallon septic tank will remain, a 1,500-gallon pump tank is proposed, the existing seepage pit will be abandoned in place, and the disposal field is sized at 1,048 square feet to meet four-bedroom requirements. She said required setbacks to the property lines and to the well were met and that reserve-area trenches were revised closer to soil log #4 following additional soil logs.
Selitto also stated that a filter will be added to the outlet baffle and the manhole cover will be brought to grade. She reported that items in the May 18, 2026 review memo from Mr. Ingram were addressed and that Mr. Ingram and Ms. Freer offered no further comment on the revised plan.
Following brief questions from board members, Kenneth West moved to accept the application as presented; Diane Tolley seconded the motion. Roll-call votes were recorded in the affirmative by Tolley, Weber and West.
The board noted that the expansion approval applies to the septic system as designed and that any future architectural addition to the dwelling would require the owners to return to the Board for further approval.
