Hampstead Recreation Commission approves middle‑school soccer camp and coordinates spring field schedules

The Hampstead Recreation Commission on March 16 approved a middle school soccer camp and moved to coordinate spring field assignments and equipment logistics ahead of the season.
Kerry Bowles proposed a middle school soccer camp for Aug. 10–14 at Depot Field, with sessions from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and assistance from middle school coaches. Recreation Commission member Sara Arroyo moved to permit the camp at Depot Road field; Rick Bernard seconded the motion and the commission approved it unanimously.
Commissioners and volunteers reviewed team rosters and practice schedules. Dan Jendrick and Andy Kirbus reported participation numbers across teams and said the U8 boys roster was at 71 percent participation, the lowest of those reported. Commissioners discussed a proposed change to the permit policy to allow teams to email required documents, including insurance and rosters, ahead of meetings so staff can process permits more efficiently.
To reduce scheduling conflicts, the commission agreed to avoid using Field 1 for soccer because of baseball restrictions and to prioritize Field 3 for soccer practices; commissioners noted this would have minimal impact on lacrosse, which has games scheduled on Field 2. Town staff raised logistics concerns about coaches moving nets and other equipment on and off fields, and the group asked staff to clarify who would be responsible for setup and takedown.
The commission also agreed logistics for porta‑potties: delivery for Holiday Lane and Town Hall is scheduled for April 13, with one unit paid by the Town and one by HASB at Holiday Lane through June 15; HASB may fund a second unit at Woodland Park if needed. T‑ball is scheduled to begin May 6 and run for six weeks; some practice times may require adjustment because of district tournament changes.
The commission discussed hosting an All‑Star game, which would require a separate permit and may carry an event fee. Field improvements were also on the agenda: Eagle Scout Luke O'Donnell will begin by building secondary benches in each dugout, with further repairs and added storage dependent on available funding.
Next steps include updating the permit policy to accept emailed documents, finalizing practice and game schedules in a shared Google Sheet, and assigning responsibilities for field setup and equipment handling ahead of the spring season.
