West Orange Senior Center appeals to Ocoee for help as volunteers dwindle

Joanne Adamo told the Ocoee City Commission the West Orange Senior Center, a nonprofit that has operated for more than 30 years, is likely to close at the end of the year unless new board members step forward.
"We are a nonprofit organization that has been self funded the whole entire time for over 30 years," Adamo said, pressing the commission to help the center remain open for seniors who rely on activities such as card games, chair exercise and social connection. Commissioners and staff suggested outreach to existing groups including the Ison Center, the West Orange Chamber and Healthy West Orange; staff committed to reach out and report back at the next meeting.
Mayor and commissioners asked whether center members live in Ocoee and discussed potential volunteer recruitment; staff said they would work to coordinate and report at the next commission meeting.
