Bigfork board re-elects Sandry as chair, approves contracts and personnel changes

At its May 20 meeting the Bigfork School District Board of Trustees completed organizational business and approved several routine district contracts and personnel adjustments.
In nominations, Trustee Ben Woods nominated incumbent Paul Sandry to remain board chair; Trustee Mac Kirk seconded the nomination and the board approved it unanimously. Woods also nominated Trustee Deb Johnson for vice chair; that nomination was seconded by Kirk and likewise approved unanimously.
The board approved 2026–27 administrative contracts (motion by Trustee Deb Johnson, seconded by Trustee Carol Field) and separately approved a set of 2026–27 independent-contractor district contracts for services such as technology, the school psychologist, occupational therapy and physical therapy. Superintendent Tom Stack said those contractor agreements include a 3% rate increase; Trustee Ben Woods moved approval and Trustee Deb Johnson seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Business Manager Lacey Porrovecchio presented an election-resolution proposal to have the county run school elections; the board approved the resolution (motion by Trustee Ben Woods, seconded by Trustee Deb Johnson).
Middle-school Principal Charlie Appleby requested and received board approval to extend the effective date of a teacher resignation so the instructor can remain through the end of the school year; Trustee Roy Burgess moved the extension, Trustee Deb Johnson seconded, and the elementary trustees approved it unanimously, with Appleby noting the change benefits students by avoiding a substitute.
Principals provided end-of-year updates. High School Principal Mark Hansen described graduation plans and student success in welding certifications at FVCC; Elementary Principal Brenda Clarke outlined spring concerts, the Fun Run, the book fair and kindergarten graduation; Middle School Principal Charlie Appleby cited improvements in writing scores and summarized spring activities. Student Council Representative Nic Gustavson introduced incoming class president Lillie Suffia and reviewed proposed changes to the student council constitution.
The board set its 2026 meeting schedule and adjourned at 5:46 p.m.
