Lynd approves long-term USPS land lease, sets rent schedule through 2043

The Lynd City Council approved a long-term land lease renewal with the United States Postal Service on June 16.
City Clerk/Treasurer Jenni DeRuyter presented the negotiated agreement, handled by JLL on the USPS's behalf. Under the approved terms the city would pay the lease commission; the annual rental rate was set at $4,100 beginning May 1, 2028. The lease includes two optional five-year renewal terms: $4,310 per year for May 1, 2033–April 30, 2038, and $4,530 per year for May 1, 2038–April 30, 2043 — each renewal representing a 5% increase over the prior term.
The agreement specifies the City will continue to handle lawn care and snow removal for the leased property. Councilmember Shantel Williams moved to approve the lease for the term beginning May 1, 2028 and ending April 30, 2043; Mayor Justin Guggisberg seconded the motion and the Council voted unanimously in favor.
The minutes record no additional rent escalators, performance conditions, or changes to maintenance responsibilities beyond those stated in the lease terms. The Council did not attach further contingencies to its approval during the meeting; staff will proceed with execution of the renewal agreement.
