The Lower Paxton Township Board of Supervisors voted July 21 to authorize advertisement of Ordinance 2026-04, which would amend the township’s fire-lane ordinance to bring the fine into alignment with the fee resolution ($50).
Planning/administrative staff told the board the fee resolution already set the parking fine at $50 while the existing ordinance still referenced $25; advertising the ordinance will publish its title and a summary and make the full ordinance text available to the newspaper and public for review. Staff and the solicitor explained that authorizing advertisement is the first step; a later meeting will consider passage of the ordinance itself.
Several supervisors argued $50 may be insufficient as a deterrent for vehicles blocking fire lanes. One supervisor said the township could consider increasing the fee during next year’s budget and fee-schedule update; staff said the ordinance should be aligned now and that any higher amount could be adopted later through the fee schedule and ordinance update.
The board approved a motion to authorize advertising the ordinance; the chair and supervisors noted the final fine will be determined when the full ordinance is brought forward for adoption.
