Indian Hill board authorizes expedited high-school entry-door security work under Ohio code

The Indian Hill Exempted Village School District board voted May 19 to authorize expedited security improvements at Indian Hill High School, approving a resolution that allows the district to proceed without competitive bidding under Ohio Revised Code §3313.46.

Operations committee members told the board the work would create a secondary entry space behind the building’s double doors so front-office staff can authenticate visitors before they enter the main building. A board member described the plan as a safety-driven “secondary placement” designed to limit building access until visitors are screened.

The resolution was presented as an urgent necessity to use downtime during summer months for installation and to avoid delays that could push the project into the fall. Committee members said the work might extend into the fall in places, but that beginning now reduces disruption to students.

Board members moved and seconded the measure and approved it by roll call. The resolution’s text—read during the meeting—declares the urgent necessity for security protection and accessibility improvements and authorizes the superintendent and treasurer to proceed with replacement of entry doors and access-control upgrades without competitive bidding pursuant to Ohio Revised Code §3313.46.

The operations committee said the recommendation grew out of a broader facilities plan that prioritizes safety as the top category. Committee leaders said consultants will deliver a full facilities report midsummer, with project-by-project cost and timing estimates through 2030.

Next steps: the district said staff will coordinate partners and schedule work to minimize disruption; the board did not provide a firm construction schedule at the meeting.
