Dr. Melissa Stewart, who has worked in the district since 2007 in roles at the elementary level and in the central office, accepted the appointment and promised to focus on supporting teachers and staff. "I am so deeply honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve as the next superintendent of Indian Hill Schools," she said, describing her approach as that of a "servant leader."
The board said the contract will place Dr. Stewart in the superintendent role for the remainder of the current school year and then for a three-year contract beginning in August. Trustees cited her conduct during the district's recent emergency response as an example of steadiness under pressure.
The decision followed a process the board described as extensive and deliberate: eight student meetings, multiple staff and community sessions, and an online survey. The district worked with the Hamilton County ESC to produce a profile of desired candidate characteristics, the board said.
The board had no public comments during the meeting's comment period. The appointment was followed by staff recognitions and administrative items in the superintendent's report.
The board moved to executive session later in the meeting to consider personnel investigations; no additional action on the superintendent appointment was recorded.
Next formal steps: the board approved Dr. Stewart's contract at the March 17 meeting and Dr. Stewart will assume the superintendent duties as described in the board's motion.
