The Pleasanton City Council unanimously voted July 6 to notify Linn County that the city intends to possibly exceed the revenue-neutral property tax rate.
Kenny Stark moved to notify the county, and Alex Wills seconded. The motion carried 4-0. The council discussed that the deadline to notify the county is July 20 and that notifying intent does not require specifying the amount that might exceed the rate.
City Attorney Laurna Alumbaugh told the council that if the city proceeds to exceed the rate, it will face additional required hearings and statutory deadlines in August and September. Council members cited current expenses and budget restructuring as reasons the city is likely to exceed the rate.
Council deferred scheduling its next budget work session until staff and consultants provide more information; staff will return with proposed dates and additional budget detail at a future meeting.
