The Dana Town Council approved an AC Grain tax abatement and signed a new fire services contract at its June 9 meeting, while also discussing sewer financing options, a town clean-up plan and delays on a redevelopment project.
Martha Kritzer moved to approve the minutes at the start of the meeting; Kyle Marshall seconded and the motion carried "all in favor," according to the minutes. Later in the meeting the council approved an AC Grain tax abatement — Fred Craft moved to approve and Kyle Marshall seconded; the minutes record the motion as carried "all in favor."
The council also approved and signed a new fire contract with the Helt Township Fire Department. The minutes record that Board President Bob Richardson and Town Clerk Michelle Doan signed the contract and that the town will pay Helt Township Fire Department $2,500 every quarter. Kyle Marshall moved to approve the contract; Martha Kritzer seconded and the motion carried "all in favor." No roll-call vote totals were recorded in the minutes.
On other business, council members were told that construction of a new town shop is expected to begin in about four to six weeks. Proposed RV and camper ordinances were tabled by the board, with the minutes noting the items were tabled "all in favor." The board also agreed to table purchase of new BS&A software on the advice of Town Attorney Scott Craig.
Town clean-up will be completed by the Town Marshal in four sections; the minutes say C.B. (initials as recorded) will begin surveying the town this month to support the cleanup plan. The minutes record that Mike Novac is arranging an appointment with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to discuss a new loan for sewer updates and refinancing of the current loan; the clerk will be notified when the appointment is set and at least three board members plus the clerk are expected to attend.
Council members were informed that demolition of a house tied to a redevelopment project has been delayed because asbestos was found; the minutes say the town will be updated on future progress but do not attribute that update to a named speaker. Clerk-Treasurer Michelle Doan reported that she and Patty are continuing financial reconciliation work. The board received the annual Drinking Water Quality Report; copies will be available at Town Hall. The Town Marshal presented monthly reports and hours worked.
Kyle Marshall moved to adjourn; Fred Craft seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The minutes do not record a date for the council's next meeting.
