Dover board appoints Daniel Shaheen to police department; honors retiring officer

Police Chief Joe asked the board to approve Shaheen’s appointment, saying Shaheen "comes with a very good background in policing, having worked on a college campus and worked in a community similar to our size in Halifax," and that "he's very passionate about community policing and interacting with the public." Chief Joe said Shaheen has roughly 2.5 years at Halifax PD and about 1½ years at Simmons University.
Chair Dave Haviland moved the appointment, which he said was "subject to the department's stipulations." Robin seconded the motion; the board recorded unanimous ayes and approved the appointment. Chief Joe told the board Shaheen is expected to start around July 20 if all goes to plan.
The board also acknowledged Officer Richard Collimore, whose last day on the books was the meeting day; Chief Joe noted Collimore’s 25 years of service and the board expressed appreciation for his career.
The appointment was a formal motion and vote; the board gave its thanks to Collimore and completed the personnel change without further conditions.
The board moved on to other agenda items after the appointment vote.
