Oneida County committee approves nonmetallic mine reclamation plan for Sugar Camp site with financial assurance

The Oneida County Planning and Development Committee on June 24 approved a nonmetallic mine reclamation application for properties on Sth 17 in the Town of Sugar Camp, subject to seven staff‑recommended conditions and state and county reclamation requirements.
Scott Ridderbusch, Land Use Specialist, and Todd Troskey, Assistant Director, presented the application submitted by Levi Rody of Sand County Environmental Inc., on behalf of landowners Township Thirty Eight North LLC and Parcel Three Hundred Ten LLC. Ridderbusch read the department report into the record and noted written comments from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Transportation that raised no concerns.
Staff recommended conditions that require reclamation under Oneida County Chapter 22 and compliance with Wisconsin NR 135 and Chapter 295. The committee also required submittal of any WPDES DNR stormwater and grading permits, internal drainage so water does not discharge offsite, final grades maintained at 3:1 slopes per plan, revegetation to restore upland habitat, and financial assurances calculated at $3,393 per open acre.
After asking staff questions, the committee voted on a motion by Dan Hess, seconded by Bob Almekinder, to approve the reclamation application with the seven conditions as presented. With all members present voting “Aye,” the motion carried.
Staff indicated required permits and the financial assurance calculation must be submitted to the department; the department will monitor compliance with reclamation and permitting requirements.
