Michele Sadauskas, Land & Water Conservation Department staff, told the Conservation/UW‑Extension Committee on July 13 that the Kathan Lake District petition was officially filed with the Oneida County Clerk on July 13, 2026, triggering the statutory 30‑day timeline for a public hearing to occur before Aug. 13.
The committee agreed to hold the hearing Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 6:00 p.m. at the Sugar Camp Town Hall, and to allow remote testimony via Zoom. Sadauskas said written comments will be accepted through 12:00 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3 and may be emailed to an address that will be posted on the Land & Water Conservation Department website. She said the committee’s role at the hearing will be to receive testimony and record public comment; a draft final report will be provided to the committee before the matter advances to the County Board.
Sadauskas said she contacted the Town of Sugar Camp chair about location preferences and confirmed the chosen location offers reliable internet access for the Zoom connection. The committee also agreed a quorum of members will attend the hearing.
