Utilities Director Kent Footh told the council the 104 reservoir is a critical component of the city's water system and currently lacks backup power to keep pumps running during outages. Footh said the need is especially urgent because an upcoming water tower maintenance project will take the tower out of service for more than a month while it is blasted and repainted; during that time, pumps at Reservoir 104 will provide system pressure.
Footh said he contacted four other companies for quotes but they declined to pursue the work once they saw the timeline. The estimate from South Central Electric for the generator and installation totaled $138,500. Following the presentation, Councilmember Terry McConnell moved to approve the bid estimate; Councilmember Kenneth Craig seconded the motion. The council voted unanimously in favor. Present and voting were Mayor Lance Munyon and Councilmembers Kenneth Craig, Terry McConnell, Jerry Voorhees and Lauren Weinert; Brian Shrader and Don Roberts were absent.
After the vote the council approved a motion to adjourn. The meeting ended at 6:11 p.m.
