Phillipsburg told to complete KOMA training after Attorney General response

Mayor Lance Munyon told the Phillipsburg City Council on June 15 that the Kansas Attorney General’s Office responded to a KOMA/KORA complaint filed on the city’s behalf and has required the city to complete one hour of Kansas Open Meetings Act (KOMA) training within 45 days.
Munyon said he asked the AG’s Office for guidance on next steps for members of the public seeking recovery of public funds and broader accountability measures; the AG’s response referred those matters to other divisions and the city has not yet received guidance on them. City Attorney Dakota Coomes said he had spoken with the staff member handling the case and would provide an update as soon as he had one.
The council did not take formal action on recovery matters during the meeting. The requirement to complete KOMA training is an administrative directive from the AG’s Office; the city will need to schedule the one-hour session within the specified 45-day window.
Next steps: Coomes will report back with any additional guidance from the AG’s Office, and the city will coordinate to meet the training requirement.
