After a presentation from Paul Peterson, superintendent of the South Coast Education Service District (ESD), the Coquille SD 8 board voted to approve the South Coast ESD local service plan (LSP) on agenda item 8.1.
Peterson told the board the LSP is reviewed annually by regional superintendents, adopted by the ESD board, and then approved by each of the 10 district boards within the South Coast ESD service area. "This local service plan on your agenda tonight is largely unchanged from the LSP you approved last year," Peterson said, noting the plan was reviewed this fall by area superintendents and approved by the ESD board on Dec. 9.
Peterson described the LSP’s structure: districts select services from a menu, with "tier 2" services accounting for about 95% of ESD resolution funds and a smaller tier 1 of core services that benefit all districts (examples cited included homeschool registration, audiology testing, birth-to-3 evaluations, and a safe schools program).
Board member Steve made the motion to approve the local service plan; Marsha seconded. Chair put the motion to a voice vote and recorded unanimous approval.
The board did not debate the substance of the LSP at length; Paul Peterson invited questions and said he was available to help districts understand specific service options and contracting details.
The vote formalizes Coquille SD 8’s participation in the South Coast ESD service menu for the coming year and allows the district to access the ESD’s tiered services under the adopted plan.
