Fenton board grants paid day off to highway and water employees, OKs $2,000 for America 250 events

The Town of Fenton Town Board on July 1 approved two resolutions recognizing municipal employees and funding community celebrations.

In Resolution No. 2026-10 the board expressed gratitude to Highway and Water & Sewer Department employees and granted them a paid day off on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026. Councilman Thomas Cook moved the resolution and Councilman Richard Pray seconded. The motion carried on a roll-call vote of five in favor and none opposed. The resolution was entered into the official minutes.

In Resolution No. 2026-11 the board authorized the appropriation of Two Thousand Dollars ($2,000.00) to the Celebration Contractual Budget Line (A7550.400) to support planning, promotion, coordination, and participation in America 250–related events in the town. Councilman Michael Husar moved the appropriation; Councilman Thomas Cook seconded. The motion carried on a unanimous roll-call vote.

Board members discussed plans for local America 250 activities, with an event in Hillcrest on Friday, July 24 that will include the Matt Fedish Memorial Big Ball Tournament (a fundraiser for veterans organizations), live music, vendors and fireworks. Supervisor David Gunster noted neighboring celebrations taking place that weekend and that the Fenton Neighborhood Society will partner with the Hillcrest Civic Association on the Crest Fest. The board also discussed a Hometown Heroes banner program to honor veterans, first responders and community heroes; the town would cover shipping and brackets while residents would pay for individual banners. Councilman Thomas Moss volunteered to assist with coordination.
