Caldwell opens new municipal offices and library space; grand opening set for September

Mayor Jones welcomed the public to the Borough of Caldwell's new Municipal Building and Public Library at 80 Bloomfield Avenue during the June 30 council meeting and thanked staff for the transition from trailers to the permanent space.

Borough Administrator Alex Palumbo said the move from trailers went well and that the old library/civic center building will proceed to a permitting phase. Robin Rockman, Caldwell Public Library Director, told the council the library reopened the previous day and reported "a lot of new library card signups" and strong community interest in the new spaces; summer reading programs for all ages have begun. Councilwoman Hunkele commended library staff and trustees for their work on the project.

Mayor Jones also thanked Ray Sullivan and the Department of Public Works for their work in readying the building and noted a grand opening for the facility is planned for September. He introduced Remington "Remi," the new police department therapy dog, who visited the council before the meeting.

The borough will begin issuing permits for work on the old library/civic center building; administrator Palumbo said residents will be notified before work begins. The council did not take formal action on the grand-opening date or on renovation permits during the public session; permit activity and scheduling will be managed administratively.
