The design was sized to serve roughly 20 years of anticipated growth.
Jamie Rochleau of Turner Construction delivered a budget estimate for the base project of $3,307,996 and described seven optional alternates that would add to that estimate. The alternates are intended to give the county flexibility for bidding and to make the project more attractive to contractors by packaging selectable scope items.
County Attorney Matt Schultz questioned whether the attorney's office needs a dedicated generator and said staff are increasingly able to work from laptops or from home in power-outage scenarios. Orth said the generator relocation was acceptable to the county attorney and that plans include keeping the ATM lane accessible throughout construction.
Board members pressed for additional review of alternates and possible cost savings; the board requested staff return with further analysis and did not take a final action on the renovation at the meeting. The project team said asbestos abatement would be complete within about a week and confirmed site logistics intended to maintain public services during construction.
Next steps: the board asked staff to provide a revised package addressing alternates, cost implications and the generator question at a future meeting before authorizing a bid package.
