Coquille SD 8 formally swore in two new board directors and reorganized leadership and committees for the 2025–26 year.
During the swearing-in, both new directors repeated the oath of office. "I, Kayla Pritchard," one new director recited while repeating the oath, and the other was introduced as Sharon Nelson and repeated the oath as well. Board staff instructed the new directors to sign their paperwork.
At item 2.1, a member nominated Marsha Cross for board chair for the upcoming school year. After discussion and a voice confirmation process, the board approved the nomination. The board also nominated and confirmed a vice chair by voice vote; the vice‑chair nominee’s first name (Marcia) was used in the discussion but a full surname was not recorded in the transcript.
The board appointed standing committees: the facilities committee will include Heather, Sharon and Steve; the policy committee was listed as Melinda, Marsha and Luke. The board agreed to hold a work session before the September meeting to review OSBA suggestions for revising the superintendent evaluation process; some members said they preferred to keep the current evaluation approach for one year to maintain continuity.
Board members also discussed meeting cadence and agreed to hold regular board meetings on the second Wednesday of each month and to forgo regular meetings in August and December.
What’s next: the board will hold a work session on superintendent evaluation before the September meeting and will proceed with the committee assignments and meeting schedule as approved.
