The Coquille SD 8 fiscal director told the board the district expects an ending fund balance of about $2,029,423 and described several projects moved into the 2025–26 year. The board also agreed to schedule a supplemental budget hearing to open a new Fund 600 so the district can pay a third‑party administrator for Oregon paid family and medical leave.
"We are going to end up with $2,029,423," Denise, the district fiscal director, said when reporting an estimated ending fund balance. Denise said some projects planned for 2024–25 were shifted into 2025–26, which raised the beginning-balance estimate for the coming year.
Staff listed projects moved into 2025–26: purchase of a maintenance truck (used to replace aging equipment), installation of a ventilation system for a dishwasher at Winter Lakes High School, and electrical work to connect a donated convection oven for the high school food program. The electrical work was estimated "not to exceed $10,000," staff said.
Denise explained the supplemental budget request is not a net increase to the district budget but is needed to open a new fund number (Fund 600) so payments to a third‑party administrator for the state's paid‑leave program can be properly tracked. "It's just opening up a new fund," she said.
To complete the supplemental budget the board must hold a public hearing and vote. The board tentatively scheduled a supplemental budget hearing for July 21 at 10:00 a.m., with the caveat that four board members must be present; staff said the hearing must be advertised in the newspaper before the vote.
The board packet also includes Resolution 26‑01 to add Denise as an authorized signer (business manager) and to remove Rachel Amos; staff noted the resolution is included in the materials. The board did not take the supplemental-budget vote at the meeting; members scheduled the hearing and said they would advertise the hearing as required.
What’s next: staff will post the public notice, and the board will hold the supplemental budget hearing and vote on July 21 if a quorum of four members is available.
