Upper Merion Park & Rec readies Heuser II RFP, summer camps and Community Center anniversary

Park & Recreation Director Dan Russell reported the Heuser II RFP has a 2/26/26 bid deadline and staff aims to recommend to the Board of Supervisors by May; the department is planning summer camps, aquatics and the 40th Concert Under the Stars series, and the Community Center marked membership growth and a ten-year anniversary.
At its Feb. 10 meeting, the Upper Merion Park & Recreation Advisory Board heard several operational updates from Park & Recreation Director Dan Russell and Community Center representative Paul Salamy.
Dan Russell said the RFP for the Heuser II project was not posted to PennBid but was publicly advertised and sent to firms that requested the bid package; the minutes record the bid deadline as Feb. 26, 2026 and a goal of presenting a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors by May. He also noted ongoing preparations for summer camps and aquatics, and that the Community Center is actively used for basketball, adult volleyball, pickleball and other activities.
Russell announced that the summer camp guide will be released and registration will open on Feb. 12–13, 2026. He said a new mural is being created for the Community Center and that plans to increase pool parking remain undecided.
Paul Salamy reported that the Community Center’s ten-year anniversary is approaching; commemorative T-shirts are being prepared for initial pass-holders and membership increased by about 100 members in January. Salamy also noted a craft fair scheduled for March 21, 2026, at the Senior Center and that video testimonials from center users are being played on facility screens. The minutes list a BCA grant application deadline as “3/30/36,” which appears to be a typographical error in the recorded minutes.
The board also received a brief announcement from Tina Garzillo that the Upper Merion Board of Supervisors will issue a Black History Month proclamation at its next regular meeting, and that PennDOT has posted notices regarding the Route 202 southbound renovations and has committed to community engagement actions for the project.
The board approved the Jan. 13, 2026 meeting minutes at the Feb. 10 meeting.
