Commission approves $550,000 in primary allocations from opioid settlement funds

The Greenbrier County Commission voted to approve a resolution that details distribution of opioid settlement funds and authorizes staff to execute memoranda of understanding (MOUs) before disbursement.
A commissioner read the resolution describing primary allocations totaling $550,000: $112,500 each to White Sulphur EMS and Fairlea EMS (with MOU reimbursement), $25,000 to Alderson EMS (with MOU reimbursement), $150,000 to the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department (including $50,000 for the drug task force), $100,000 to the Greenbrier County prosecutor’s office, and $50,000 to the Greenbrier County Health Department for overdose prevention and infectious disease response.
The resolution also allocates $35,000 for community program support at $5,000 each to a set of local organizations (God’s Way Home; Seed Sewing; West Virginia Healing Home; Communities and Schools; Greenbrier County Care Coalition; DARE; Fruits of Labor). The resolution directs that any remaining funds be deposited in the West Virginia investment pool or other approved vehicles and authorizes the county clerk and commission president to implement the resolution and execute MOUs to govern how recipients draw funds.
Commissioners discussed the rationale for differing EMS allocations, noting that Alderson responded to roughly 6% of county calls in a recent EMS summary, which staff cited as justification for a smaller award to that unit. The commission approved the resolution by voice vote.
