Mount Arlington police and fire report new trainings, equipment and drills

Mount Arlington public safety representatives reported training and preparedness activities at the council meeting on Sept. 9.
In the police report, Sgt. Farina was noted as recently assigned to the Morris County First Amendment Response Team (FAST) and has attended related training as the team expanded to local agencies. Patrol Officer Kaiteris completed mandatory training for the Sheriff's Emergency Response Team (SERT). The department has updated its officers' outer carrier vest back patches and carried out a speed survey on Bertrand Island Road using Roxbury Police Department radar equipment; Mount Arlington police have purchased similar radar equipment and plan to conduct additional speed surveys throughout town. Traffic reports are available through the police department.
Captain Eric Fowler presented the fire department report. The department recently participated in an extradition drill at Picatinny Arsenal, and will take part in a sprinkler drill in Jefferson Township (cited as important because a few borough buildings have sprinkler systems) and in a ladder drill. Fowler described drills as important opportunities for personnel to exercise equipment in controlled environments.
