Board of Education liaison reports budget review, school events and PTO fundraiser

Melissa Eckert, the board of education liaison, reported to the Mount Arlington Borough Council on Sept. 9 that the new school year has begun and fall athletics — cross country and boys' and girls' soccer — are underway.
Eckert said the Mount Arlington PTO is partnering with the Roxbury Garden Center to sell mums through Oct. 5; residents interested in ordering were directed to email mtarlingtonpto@gmail.com or visit the PTO Facebook page. She also said Interim Business Administrator Robin Tedesco and Interim Superintendent Dr. Ficarra are conducting a detailed review of the school budget and will meet with Mayor Michael Stanzilis and Borough Administrator Carolyn Rinaldi in the coming weeks for introductions and updates on that review. Eckert noted the Board will again participate as a vendor at the community Halloween Bash.
The Board of Education's next regular meeting was announced for Sept. 24 in the MAPS media center. No public comments were recorded in response to the liaison's report at the council meeting.
