The Madison County Board of Supervisors voted July 20 to hire Anne Johnson as the county’s full‑time veterans service officer, approving the appointment and welcoming her to the office.
Johnson addressed the board after the motion passed and described her background: she said she joined the military at 17, will mark nearly 18 years of service in December, deployed to Iraq in 2011 and has held Department of the Army positions in human resources, administrative work, pay and personnel actions. Johnson said she graduated law school in 2019 and previously interned at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office in Jackson.
Board members encouraged veterans and spouses to contact Johnson with benefit questions; Johnson provided an office phone number, (601) 855‑5518. The board welcomed her and asked that she meet the public for a brief introduction following the vote. The motion included the hiring terms discussed in the meeting record.
