Moore Haven council approves bills, grants payment plan to resident and hears updates on marina, parks and broadband

Public comment and resident billing: A resident identified as Aguilar said their household at 701 5th Street was billed for 79,000 gallons of water and asked to pay in installments. City Clerk Ashley Wills said a city employee visited the property and that the meter reading “did go through the meter.” The council authorized Clerk Wills to set up a payment arrangement for Aguilar (motion by RaShonda Croskey, seconded by Bradley Smith), and the motion carried.
School at church property: A pastor who identified himself as the leader of New Life Ministry (identified in the transcript as Citizen Scott, pastor at 628 Ave A) asked the council to allow New Life Christ Academy to operate a private, faith-based school on church grounds. Clerk Wills advised that if the property remains a church the zoning should not be an issue but said the school must obtain an occupational license and meet state requirements.
Public works and parks: Public Works Superintendent Brad Simmons said he had received a quote to clean around a south pump and a truck quote for the Electric Department, and reported recurring maintenance issues at the park adjacent to City Hall (rusted equipment and loose bolts). Simmons recommended planning for replacement of some play equipment in the future; Councilmember Alisha Beck requested that restrooms used for youth soccer be unlocked daily, and Simmons said the league should be responsible for keys.
Mayor and council reports: Mayor Wayne Browning said staff are discussing options as long-time personnel retire, including contracting with outside operators (he mentioned U.S. Water). Browning reiterated that the city has not raised water rates in more than 20 years and said a grant for plant expansion is expected next year while the current plant continues to operate with patches.
Adjournment: Councilmember Alisha Beck moved to adjourn; RaShonda Croskey seconded and the meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
