Moore Haven council approves first reading of Ordinance No. 362 to update water rates

The Moore Haven City Council approved the first reading of Ordinance No. 362, an ordinance to update the city’s water rates, at its Sept. 16 regular meeting at City Hall.
City Attorney Steve Ramunni read Ordinance No. 362 by title. City Manager Larry Tibbs told council members the city had contracted with consultant Craig A. Smith to develop the new water-rate structure and that staff would return for discussion and any changes after the ordinance is advertised. “Once it’s advertised, we will come back for a discussion and changes,” Tibbs said.
Vice Mayor Marcus “Marc” Decker moved to approve the first reading of Ordinance No. 362; RaShonda Croskey seconded the motion. The council voted to carry the motion.
Mayor Wayne Browning emphasized that Moore Haven has not raised water rates in more than 20 years and said the treatment plant has been patched in places while the city awaits grant funding for expansion next year. Browning encouraged council members to attend the upcoming CCPWA meeting to hear related presentations.
The ordinance’s first reading does not enact new rates; Tibbs said staff will advertise the proposed changes and return to the council for further consideration and any revisions before final approval.
