Laurel School District reports slight enrollment dip, approves personnel, facility uses and labor agreements

Laurel School District finance staff reported a net enrollment decrease of 45 students and noted the district is just under 2,500 students, with 190.15 units (an increase of 0.17 units driven by 24 additional high-need/complex students).
"Our enrollment did decrease by 45 students. We are currently just shy of 2,500 students," the finance presenter reported during the meeting, and described upcoming deadlines including a quarterly bond bill report due Oct. 31, an FY24 local funds audit in progress and school construction examinations for FY24 and FY25 getting underway.
Following the finance update, the board approved a series of routine agenda items on roll-call votes. Actions approved included the meeting agenda and minutes (the minutes approval recorded one abstention), a grouped package of fundraisers, multiple facility-use requests (including a Laurel High School facility use for a DSCA competition on Feb. 14, 2026), use and fee-waiver approval for the Project RISE after-school program (Oct. 2025'June 2026), a request for middle-school gym use for a youth basketball league, and a request to allow five Laurel High School FFA students and their advisor (Dr. Matthew Wood) to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis (Oct. 27'Nov. 2, 2025).
The board also voted to approve labor agreements and personnel recommendations presented in executive session: the Laurel Education Association support staff final agreement, the Education Association food-service workers agreement and personnel attachments covering professional staff, support staff, cafeteria staff, coaches and administrative recommendations. The chair noted that Mr. Gross would sign the approved agreements at the end of the meeting.
Roll-call outcomes were recorded for each motion. Where an individual abstention was recorded in the transcript it was noted in the minutes; otherwise motions passed by majority roll call. The board confirmed its next regular meeting for Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Laurel Middle/High School cafeteria and adjourned at 7:28 p.m.
