Broadwater County's fair and rodeo organizers told the commission they are preparing for a larger, fully programmed fair week with increased entries, equipment upgrades and new entertainment.
Jessica Erickson, Broadwater County fair manager, said preregistration is up to 1,482 entries from 1,356 last year and reviewed capital expenditures from the CIP bundle, including the purchase and staged replacement of six metal bleachers for the 4‑H building. She said sponsor fundraising has generated roughly $7,450 (not all profit, since some funds cover vendor vouchers and sign costs) and that she requested a $1,000 petty cash line but could need additional cash to cover vendor voucher redemptions.
"So last year, our preregistration total entries was 1,356 entries. This year, we have 1,482 entries preregistered," Erickson said, noting horticulture preregistrations and premium payout estimates that could raise post‑fair budget requests.
Kacen Gregg, the new 4‑H assistant, reported about 474 animals entered and 63 educational displays and reviewed the 4‑H schedule (dog show Aug. 4; horse show Aug. 5; indoor exhibits open Aug. 6). Rodeo liaison Denise Thompson and volunteers described upgrades to arena systems, seating expansion plans, a new Jumbotron screen for Friday and Saturday events funded by sponsors, and ongoing cleanup and signage work.
Carla Ahern, the parade director, said the Sunday, Aug. 9 parade will start at noon, that she is soliciting volunteers and float registrations, and that she will use street space near Mesa Park for staging.
Commissioners thanked fair and rodeo volunteers and asked for a post‑fair review; the fair manager said she will return with after‑action numbers if additional budget requests are needed to cover premiums paid to 4‑H and open‑class exhibitors.
What happens next: Organizers will complete final fair setups and report back after the event; commissioners asked to receive a post‑fair financial summary if additional appropriations are necessary.
