District outlines $108,904 Pierce Lake kitchen purchase and $22M remaining from 2019 bond; bond planning to follow August election

Administration told the board the Great Lakes Hotel Supply proposal was the lowest qualified bid for converting the Pierce Lake early childhood center into an operational production kitchen and recommended awarding equipment, delivery and installation for $108,903.95. The purchase would draw from the 2019 bond scope that originally set aside funds for Pierce Lake equipment.
"There was $300,000 originally allocated in the 2019 bond for that equipment... Chris scoped out and looked at the kitchen and made recommendations based upon what was needed," the superintendent said, describing the procurement process and that three bids were solicited.
Trustees asked whether the bids were apples‑to‑apples, whether the proposed amount included hookups and any necessary electrical/HVAC upgrades, and whether warranties and installation are sufficient. Administration said pre‑bid assessments of gas connections, hoods and utility capacity were completed and that installation and connection costs are included in the recommended amount.
On broader facilities planning, administration reported there will be roughly $22–23 million left from the 2019 bond by the end of the summer. The district has already identified priority projects for spring/summer 2027 (secure vestibules at Pierce Lake and Chelsea High, HVAC and cafeteria work, and potential 200 Building considerations) and said a bond committee meeting will be scheduled after the August 4 election to refine scope and community messaging.
Board members emphasized the need for clarity on project lists and timelines if the district intends to seek voter approval for a bond; administration said preliminary master‑plan documents and heat‑mapping of student residences will be part of the bond committee materials.
The board did not take final action on the Pierce Lake equipment purchase at the work session; administration said the item returns for second hearing and vote in August.
