BPAC flags delay on Veo bike‑share contract as students return; campus sees fewer abandoned bikes

A BPAC member said the commission submitted recommendations to staff months ago and has received no substantive response from Veo representatives; staff reported repeated outreach without reply. "It's been months since we've had one," Bruce Michelson said, urging faster progress and warning he may present draft language at the August meeting expressing the commission’s concern to city staff if the situation does not improve.
Separately, university facilities staff told the commission they have been removing about 250–300 bicycles each summer (tagging abandoned bicycles and impounding those unclaimed) compared with pre‑pandemic levels of 500–600 annually. The impounded bicycles are later refurbished or donated through the Bike Project; students and building occupants have a reclamation window before donation.
BPAC’s bike‑share working group said its contact at Veo has not been responsive and recommended staff provide a fresh point of contact or arrange a city presentation to move contract discussions forward; no formal motion was adopted at this meeting.
