Council approves routine and consent items including firefighter wage increase, special event wet zone, MOU with regional task force and library grant

The New Port Richey City Council cleared a slate of routine and consent items on April 15.
Ordinance housekeeping and code cleanup: Staff sought and council approved the first reading of Ordinance 2025‑2322 to repeal section 6‑31 of the code of ordinances (tool sheds and utility buildings). Staff characterized the change as housekeeping because the land development code adopted in 1991 superseded those provisions.
Special event approval: The council approved the Rotary Club of West Pasco Sunset’s Kentucky Derby Pub Crawl scheduled for May 3, 11AM–7PM, including a wet‑zone limited to the alley behind Infusion Brewing Company; staff said a safety plan and police presence will be in place and parking impacts are limited.
Interlocal and public‑safety agreements: The council authorized the police chief to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Tampa Bay Multi‑Agency Gang Task Force (MAGTF) that governs intelligence sharing and forfeiture distribution; the MOU runs through May 30, 2030, and city legal staff approved the form.
Library grant: The city’s library was awarded a $3,000 summer reading grant from Florida Humanities to buy children’s books for the mobile library; staff said no additional budget action is required.
Firefighters’ wages: Council ratified a tentative agreement with IAFF Local 1158 to increase wage step amounts by 5% for the 2024–2025 fiscal year, retroactive to Oct. 1, 2024; staff said the financial impacts were anticipated in the current budget and no amendment was necessary.
Appointments: Council also confirmed several interlocal committee appointments consistent with city manager recommendations and councilor preferences.
