North Bay Village must plan privatized trash pickup after public-works lot repurpose, staff says

"Because we will no longer have a place to store garbage vehicles, we cannot operate a garbage pickup system, and we will need to privatize garbage pickup in North Bay Village," a staff speaker said. The speaker described giving the village manager a directive to prepare a strategic plan with public engagement, town halls and a clear calendar for decisions and actions.
Members expressed concern about potential loss of service continuity and the livelihoods of current sanitation employees; staff said they will prepare a comprehensive plan and suggested a presentation to the task force the next month. The speaker noted that the village's trucks currently take waste to Miami-Dade transfer facilities and that siting an RMF (recovery management facility) is constrained by permitting and distance.
No final decision was recorded; staff will present a plan and community-engagement schedule for the proposed privatization in an upcoming meeting.
