Mississippi State Board of Architecture approves rule changes and updates firm-verification form ahead of July statute change

Executive Director John Cothron and Andrew Kilpatrick presented draft edits to BOA Rules 3.2.1, 3.2.2, 3.2.3, 3.2.12 and 5.9 and the revised verification form. By motion, the board approved the rule changes 4–0 and separately approved the form revisions, including President Richard H. McNeel’s request to bold a sentence clarifying that architects must retain responsible control.
Cothron told the board that pending rule changes have been approved by the Occupational Licensing Review Commission and that the board will file the final rules after the OLRC issues its resolution. The board did not record additional substantive debate about the rule language in the minutes.
The board’s action affects the form used by firms and licensees to verify business and firm arrangements and implements statutory changes that, according to the minutes, were expected to take effect on July 1, 2026. The board recorded the vote on the rule changes as 4–0; the minutes do not list individual dissenting votes.
