Dawson County commissioners approve realty sale, road contract, grant and hydrants; reject group counseling bids

The Dawson County Board of Commissioners approved a series of administrative, public-safety and public-works actions on March 20, voting unanimously on motions to complete a real-estate sale, solicit bids, accept grant funding, fund fire hydrants and award a road contract, and to reject proposals for group counseling services.
In unfinished business the board approved an agreement for the purchase and sale of realty for tax parcel 097-106-001 following prior abandonment proceedings for a portion of Black's Mill Valley Road. In new business the board voted to solicit bids for bollard installation and to reject offers for RFP #462-24 (Group Counseling Services), taking no further action on that procurement.
The board approved a Dawson County Treatment Court FY2026 grant application for $353,109 with a required local match of $62,313, and approved funding of $66,537 from impact fees to install nine new fire hydrants on Grizzle Road between Hugh Stowers and Lumpkin Campground Roads. The board also accepted bids and awarded IFB #467-25 (Full Depth Reclamation Project for Shoal Creek Road) to Blount Construction in the amount of $1,524,616.45 and approved a 10 percent county-controlled contingency. The record indicates funds for the road contract will come from Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) funds and Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax VII (SPLOST VII) funds.
