The Scituate Select Board on July 21 approved a special-event permit for the town's Heritage Days festival, allowing an expanded artisan-village layout, a food court and a fenced beer garden managed by local partners.
A presenter from the Chamber outlined plans for Aug. 8–9, saying the festival will feature artisan vendors on Front Street Parkway, a combined food court and beer garden at the parking-lot area, local music and family zones. Organizer details included about 95 10-by-10 vendor spots (up from about 79 last year), expanded shaded areas for patrons and shuttle service between the harbor and the high school for event parking.
Matt Alda of Untold Brewing, a partner on the beer-garden operation, described measures organizers will use to reduce alcohol-related risk: "We will, ID everybody at point of sale. Anyone who's over the age of 21 gets a wristband." He said the beer garden will have three staffed egresses to a fenced wet-zone area and additional roaming staff to maintain a safe environment.
Board members asked about weather contingencies, traffic flow and how the expanded footprint would affect deliveries to local businesses. The board approved the permit subject to final inspections and sign-offs from building and fire departments.
Organizers said they will continue to coordinate logistics, sanitation providers and local volunteer staffing and will supply the board with follow-up details as requested.
