Heritage Pines CDD approves $19,200 pond-algae treatment contract with Premier Lakes

The Heritage Pines Community Development District Board of Supervisors on Oct. 15 approved a $19,200 contract with Premier Lakes, Inc. to provide pond algae treatment, a motion moved by Supervisor Michael Walsh and seconded by Supervisor Carol Vaughan that passed unanimously.
District Manager Chuck Adams presented the Premier Lakes proposal and said the change would save the district about $3,200 a year compared with the existing SOLitude contract. When a resident asked what chemical SOLitude uses, Adams said “a copper-based product is used to target algae” and added that the odor some residents notice is “a product of the degasification of the algae, which lasts a couple of days.” Adams said, if the board approved Premier Lakes, he would initiate SOLitude’s 30-day termination so Premier Lakes could begin service on Dec. 1, 2024.
Supervisor Michael Walsh asked whether SOLitude could be asked to compensate the district for poor performance; Adams said he would contact SOLitude and indicated he thought it would be reasonable to hold them “50% responsible.” The motion approving the Premier Lakes proposal passed with all supervisors in favor.
At the same meeting the board also accepted the unaudited financial statements as of Aug. 31, 2024 and noted it is opening a BankUnited Insured Cash Sweep (ICS) account to invest General Fund surplus funds. Adams said the Premier Lakes report will include more detail about which ponds will be treated.
The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Dec. 10, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.; the Oct. 15 meeting adjourned at 2:41 p.m.
