Pascagoula Recreation Commission updates parks projects, submits MDOT disc‑golf application and schedules HUDL camera installations

Pascagoula Recreation Department staff told the Recreation Commission on March 4 that several park projects and programs are moving forward.
Most immediately, the River Park Disc Golf Course application — which the minutes say the City Council approved on Jan. 6, 2026 — has been submitted to MDOT for final approval; the City Manager is following up and awaiting a response. Department staff also reported that HUDL camera poles have already been installed, power boxes were scheduled for March 5 and network and camera hardware were scheduled for March 10.
On signage, a new markup from Dunaway Signs offered several options; staff identified an 18x18 circular printed aluminum composite panel priced at $45 each as the most cost‑effective option and Secretary Antoinette Johnson will explore funding sources.
Staff provided program updates and event schedules: regularly scheduled classes (aerobics, after‑school programs, pickleball and line dancing) are doing well; the 50+ Pickleball Tournament Feb. 23–24 drew nine teams (18 participants); adult basketball held a captains meeting March 4 ahead of a March 24 season start; youth baseball opening ceremonies were well attended and the Kirkpatrick Tournament is scheduled March 2–6; youth softball opening ceremonies are scheduled March 7. The commission also heard that IG Levy North Lake fountain replacement is complete, a prefabricated restroom has been ordered, and Phase 1 concrete repairs at the Sports Complex are finished. A water line will be added to each fish‑cleaning station at Point Park North Fishing Pier. Upcoming projects listed by staff include a score booth at the Sports Complex and a new gym floor at the Recreation Center.
Commissioner Mike McElhaney thanked Joseph Powel and Pascagoula Youth Baseball for a successful opening ceremony and noted strong attendance and media coverage. The commission commended staff for the condition of the Sports Complex.
No formal votes were recorded on these project updates during the meeting; staff noted follow‑up actions (City Manager to pursue MDOT approval; Secretary to research funding for signage).
