Farm Pond bathing beach permit approved conditionally; fountain must remain closed until potable test

The Sherborn Board of Health approved a conditional bathing-beach permit for Farm Pond on May 20, after Health Agent Mark Oram reported low E. coli counts and recommended the permit contingent on a passing inspection.
Mr. Oram told the board the pond had fewer than five E. coli colonies on the test and therefore met recreational water standards; however, drinking-water fountains at the site had not yet been tested. The Board approved operation from May 23 through Sept. 7 on the condition of a passing inspection and directed that “the drinking water fountain not be available until it is tested with passing results.” The board also scheduled an on-site inspection (Mr. Constantine planned to meet the agent at Farm Pond at 10 a.m. the following day).
The measure allows Farm Pond to open for the summer season provided the inspection passes and the fountain is covered until potable sampling confirms safety.
