City staff told Canal Winchester City Council on July 20 that industrial development activity is increasing and that a large rezoning application will return to council for public hearing.
Development Director Lucas Hare said Browning’s Velocity Hill Road project has broken ground for a roughly 200,200‑square‑foot industrial building and Molto Properties has started a roughly 210,000‑square‑foot speculative building at the end of Robinette Way. He also said OPUS closed on a site at Bixby Road near U.S. 33 and was expected to begin staging equipment on site in the coming days.
Hare said those spec buildings have no tenant commitments and are being built based on strong industrial leasing activity in the Columbus market. "They're just being built on a speculative basis that we sell," he said, noting substantial earthmoving is underway.
Hare said Miller Farms has applied to rezone about 110–111 acres west of the existing Miller Farms and that the Planning & Zoning Commission forwarded the matter; council set a public hearing for Sept. 8 at 5:45 p.m. for consideration of the rezoning and associated plan.
Councilmembers asked whether the Miller Farms portion under consideration is for single‑family housing; staff said the application describes single‑family lots and estimated the development could yield more than 200 lots when fully built.
The city also announced a ribbon‑cutting for the Chamber of Commerce’s 70th anniversary and several other local development milestones. Council packet materials and staff comments list ongoing applications and timelines; councilmembers were offered paper and online packet options to review plans ahead of the Sept. 8 hearing.
