The Monroe SD 1J board received a construction and building-inspection report that prioritizes a high-school kitchen floor repair for this summer and outlines other facility work under consideration.
A staff member told the board the kitchen floor at the high school will need repair and that district staff met with a contractor to examine replacement options beyond simple linoleum, including sheet vinyl and polished concrete. “That’s gonna have to happen this summer,” the staff report said. The board discussed material choices, unit-cost comparisons and the goal of avoiding a cheap, short-lived fix.
The committee also discussed possible CTE (career and technical education) expansion to create more usable shop space, and minor improvements at the grade-school baseball field, including small dugouts and fencing to improve the facility for youth programs. Staff reported grant funding could help with CTE expansion but said the timing and scope were uncertain.
The board said it had walked the track with a vendor and received a quote back for limited resurfacing work. Staff cautioned the vendor response appeared to describe a surface-level repair rather than a full-depth rebuild. Board members discussed contractor parameters and noted past unit prices for polished concrete (staff cited approximately $7.50 per square foot from an earlier project) as part of cost comparisons.
No contracts were approved at the meeting; staff were asked to continue collecting options, confirm allowable work scopes, and return with more detailed cost estimates for prioritized items.
The meeting then moved on to enrollment and program updates.
