Downtown Estacada Commission forwards Margie Arnett to city council for appointment

Margie Arnett introduced herself to the Downtown Estacada Commission on Feb. 2 and the commission voted to present her name to City Council for appointment.

Arnett, who said, "I'm Margie Arnett. I've lived in the community ... for 53 years," described a 30-year teaching career in local schools and told commissioners she manages the Book Nook in Estacada. She said the Book Nook could serve as a community hub for families and volunteers.

The move matters because the commission needs reliable members to sustain four signature events — Uncorked, the Fourth of July parade, Oktoberfest and the downtown tree-lighting — and commissioners said Arnett’s local history and volunteer background fit that need. "We just always are looking for volunteers to help out with those events," Chair (Speaker 1) said during the discussion.

Committee member (Speaker 5) moved to present Arnett's name to City Council; Chair (Speaker 1) seconded the motion and commissioners approved it by voice vote.

The commission also approved renewal of seats for Connie and Youth member Corbin at the meeting after a committee motion to renew both terms. Clerk (Speaker 2) noted that Heather’s application will come to the DEC next month. The meeting record shows no formal roll-call tallies; votes were recorded by voice as approved or "Aye."

The commission spent part of the meeting describing expectations for members: regular monthly attendance and active volunteer outreach. Commissioners urged members to help recruit volunteers at local events and to be prepared to take on event responsibilities.

The commission’s next regular meeting is scheduled for March 2.
