Commissioners discussed a proposed reorganization to separate parks-development work from recreation and event planning, and they raised several maintenance issues for public works.
Chair explained that with the master plan concluding there is less ongoing parks-development business and more need for event-focused work. She said parks could meet on an ad-hoc basis for development projects while a recreation or races committee handles events and volunteer-driven programming. "It's more of an ad hoc thing," Chair said, noting the idea would allow volunteers to join commissions on an event-by-event basis.
Commissioner (S4) emphasized that routine maintenance is the responsibility of public works, not the parks commission, pointing to missing garbage cans at Casadero Heights Park and unfinished dog-park ground cover. He urged the commission to back a request for a crosswalk between the library and Wade Creek Park to help seniors and children cross safely: "We need a crosswalk right there between the library and the park," he said, adding traffic-slowing concerns and senior safety as drivers for the request.
The commission agreed to follow up with public works on maintenance items and to coordinate with council liaisons on the crosswalk and other infrastructure requests.
